## Hot Weather Can Make Veins More Visible
Temperature can also dramatically affect how your veins look.
When the body becomes warm, blood vessels near the surface of the skin can widen. This helps the body transfer heat to the environment.
As superficial blood vessels become more prominent, veins may appear larger or easier to see.
You might notice this after:
* Spending time outside on a hot day
* Taking a warm or hot shower
* Exercising in a warm environment
* Sitting in a sauna
* Being exposed to high temperatures
The change is often temporary.
Once your body cools down, the veins may become less noticeable.
This is one reason you shouldn’t judge the appearance of your veins based on a single moment.
A photograph taken immediately after exercise on a hot day may look dramatically different from how your hands appear while resting in a cool room.
## Changes in Body Fat Can Reveal More Veins
Another common explanation is a change in body composition.
The amount of tissue beneath your skin can influence how easily superficial veins can be seen.
If someone loses a significant amount of body fat, veins that were previously less visible may become much easier to see.
This can happen gradually through changes in diet, exercise, or lifestyle.
